Position Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, the Assistant Director is a key contributing member of the team responsible for raising immediate impact gifts for The Wellesley Fund and growing overall alumnae participation rates for the College. S/he manages The Wellesley Fund's student calling program, overseeing all aspects of this important giving channel from recruiting, hiring and training student callers, to implementation and execution of the solicitation strategies and schedule. The Assistant Director will also lead the Senior Class Gift effort and is tasked with building a Wellesley Fund Student Ambassadors program.

The Assistant Director manages and trains Wellesley Fund class representative and assistant representative volunteers for the five most recent graduating classes. S/he participates in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies to help reach The Wellesley Fund revenue and donor goals.

Primary Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages the student calling program, developing strategies and tactics to motivate student callers in reaching program goals.
  • Leads, in collaboration with colleagues in the Alumnae Association, the management of the Senior Class Gift program including recruitment and training of committee members, goal setting, and campus-wide development and implementation.
  • Manages and motivates Wellesley Fund Class Representatives from the five most recent graduation classes to raise both immediate impact gifts and increase alumnae participation.
  • Works closely with and trains alumnae fundraising volunteers to be successful in their efforts on behalf of the College.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, especially in regard to identifying and coordinating the recruitment and solicitation of potential class volunteers, and keeps colleagues informed of his/her activities

  • Successfully trains and supervises the student phone program managers and callers, motivates them to make the most of every call and reach program goals.
  • Oversees student payroll, and manages calling shift schedules effectively.
  • A leader, motivator, and champion of the student calling program.

Education:

Bachelor's degree

Experience:

1-3 years of fundraising experience, ideally within higher education. Experience as a student calling participant or supervisor preferred. Bachelor's degree and valid driver's license.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to look at data and draw conclusions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to work collaboratively, and an orientation toward customer service.
  • Absolute confidentiality, professionalism and discretion required.

  • An ability and commitment to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Familiarity with Windows-based systems, including tracking systems and a high comfort-level using technology to communicate and share information.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, train, coach, and motivate student employees and volunteers.
  • Outstanding work organization, time management skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with a mix of student, alumnae, and staff colleagues.

  • This is an exempt, full-time position.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours; frequent evening and occasional weekend work are required.
